— Lee T. · Local Guide · Verified · Jul 2026Tesla Home is the home energy management system that comes standard in every Powerwall. It's powered by Opticaster, Tesla's AI optimization software, which predicts your energy needs, automatically adjusts your usage across your electric appliances and can help lower your electricity bills. Opticaster decides where to source your energy from and how to use it in your home.
Once your Powerwall is installed, you set the goal and Tesla Home does the rest.
Use the Tesla app to choose your energy goal to prioritize savings or solar self-consumption. You can also adjust your Backup Reserve to control how much of your stored energy will be saved for outages.
Opticaster can help you save more by analyzing your energy usage, solar production and local utility prices. Then it decides how and when to use your energy.
See what your system is doing throughout the day and adjust your preferences at any time.
Review your home energy usage and control how your home uses energy, all from the Tesla app.
Check in on what your system is doing, see what you can expect it to do next and understand why it's doing it.
Monitor your connected devices, like smart breakers and EV chargers, and adjust your system settings.
Review real-time and historical energy insights and view trends to learn more about your home's energy usage.
Use the excess solar energy your system generates to charge your electric vehicle during the day.
Set your EV to charge automatically when utility prices are low or excess solar energy is available. Tesla Home supports a variety of rate plans.

Yes — the Powerwall 3 is generally compatible with most existing solar installations through AC coupling. It works with major inverter brands including SolarEdge, Enphase, SMA, Fronius, and others certified to UL 1741. I’ll evaluate your current setup to make sure everything integrates properly and recommend the right configuration for your home.
1000%! I recommend 3 expansion units — that way you’re safe from a power outage for a couple of days. But definitely at least 1!
No, we do not purchase the SPAN panel, Powerwall 3, or the EV chargers. This is the client’s responsibility. We handle all the installation work.
If we’re mounting it directly behind the panel, the cost is $500. If the charger isn’t going directly behind the panel, we’ll need to measure the distance to give you an accurate quote — just call or text and I’ll walk you through it. Information is free.
If you send me the square footage of your home and a photo of your panel open — so I can see the breaker sizes and panel labels — I can figure that out for you!
Give Kelvin a call for straight answers from a Tesla-certified master electrician. No pressure — whether it’s Powerwall 3, expansion units or a Wall Connector.
